No more smells!

I was doubtful that a little chew would make any difference to the smelly fluid that came from Bertie’s bottom but after two weeks of a daily chew he has had no more trouble.

Scooch in action

Meet Rupert, a Cavapoo puppy getting the best start to life with his All-In-One chews.

    Digestive enzymes

The role of digestion is to break down food into building block components to be used for energy and repair. So, when a dog doesn’t have enough digestive enzymes, they’ll be missing out on getting essential energy and nutrients from food. These enzymes can help to break down food in three main food groups:

    • Alpha-Amylase enzyme

An enzyme that gets to work by breaking down starches and carbohydrates into sugars. An enzyme that gets to work by breaking down starches and carbohydrates into sugars, which provide an essential energy source for your pup's brain, kidneys and other vital organs. It has a natural umami flavour that dogs love!

    • Lipase enzyme

A digestive enzyme that breaks down fats and oils and converts them into glycerol and fatty acids for your pup's body to use as energy, to protect vital organs and support cell growth.

    • Cellulase enzyme

Another crucial digestive enzyme that works by breaking down cellulose (a type of insoluble fibre found in foods). This fibre helps to keep guts moving and healthy.

    Papaya

Protease is a digestive enzyme found naturally in papaya. Protease helps break down the proteins in foods (such as meats and eggs) into peptides and amino acids.

This study showed positive effects for constipation, heartburn, and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) after eating food and supplements prepared with papaya*.

*Muss, C., Mosgoeller, W., & Endler, T. (2013). Papaya preparation (Caricol®) in digestive disorders. Neuro endocrinology letters, 34(1), pp. 38–46.

    Bacillus subtilis (PB6 Probiotic)

Dogs supplemented with the probiotic B. subtilis, can experience significant improvements in poo quality and firmness. It gets to work by reducing the levels of harmful bacteria that can commonly cause diarrhoea.

This study shows that strains of B.subtilis encourage a greater diversity of friendly gut bacteria and can contribute to improved poo quality (and less stinky poos!)*.

*de Lima, D., Souza, C., Nakamura, N., Mesa, D., de Oliveira, S. and Félix, A. (2020). Dietary supplementation with Bacillus subtilis C-3102 improves gut health indicators and fecal microbiota of dogs. Animal Feed Science and Technology, 270, p.114672.

    Bacillus coagulans (Probiotic)

    B. coagulans is a friendly bacteria shown to reduce harmful bacteria that commonly cause diarrhoea. This strain of probiotic contributes to better gut health as well as curbing foul-smelling wind from your pup!

In this study, dogs supplemented with B. coagulans also showed greatly improved protein, fat, and energy levels in the gut*. This suggests that it may have a role in helping pups to absorb more nutrients from the food they eat.

    Enterococcus faecium (Probiotic)

E.faecium is another friendly bacteria that helps to suppress the growth of harmful bacteria in the gut.

This study shows dogs fed this probiotic strain as a supplement were seen to have decreased gut levels of harmful staphylococcal bacteria (which can cause many different types of infections)*. It was also shown to significantly reduce levels of harmful Pseudomonas-like bacteria*.

    Fructooligosaccharides (FOS)

FOS is a food source for friendly bacteria, helping them to grow and overpopulate amongst 'bad' bacteria, helping to positively alter your pup's gut eco-system.

In this study, pups supplemented with FOS saw increased numbers of gut-friendly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium populations (which manage yeast, support the immune system, prevent anxiety and reduce stress). FOS supplementation was also shown to increase short-chain fatty acids (a source of energy for cells), which help to keep the gut healthy*.

How our chews improve your dog's health

Miracles don't happen overnight, but you may see significant improvement within as little as 48 hours. Depending on your dog's stats, it can take up to 12 weeks to see a complete gut health transformation.

A dog's digestive system is as complex as our own. However, restoring the balance doesn't have to be complicated. By keeping up with your dog's daily doses, a balanced diet, plus a few habit tweaks here and there, you'll soon notice your pup is back to their usual self.

Just because you can't see something on the outside straight away doesn't mean positive change isn't happening on the inside! Below is a handy map of everything that's happening inside your pup as their Scooch journey unfolds.

  • Week 1

A little gas may occur as new and friendly bacteria begin balancing in your dog's microbiome.

  • Week 8

Levels of harmful bacteria are now reducing, and good bacteria are on the up leading to improved poo quality and energy levels.

  • Month 4

Improvements in gut health can have body wide effect on immune function, blood pressure and even controlling body weight.

  • Month 6

Clever gut bacteria also make B vitamins in the gut, so you may now also begin to notice improved energy and better skin.

  • Year 1+

These friendly bacteria continue to create benefits for their whole wellbeing, including improved mood, bright eyes and a shinier, thicker coat.
